Minister of State for textiles Darshana Jardosh told Rajya Sabha, “The government does not fix targets for employment generation in the textile sector,” she replied to a question on whether it is a fact that the employment generated in the textile industry is much less than the target set for generating employment in five years. Nearly 80% of textiles units in India are MSME resulting in a fragmented nature of the industry. Therefore, the data on jobs created is not central.” Minister of state for commerce and industry Som Parkash told Rajya Sabha, “the government has been assessing the performance of the production of major commodity groups by indicators, such as, Index of Industrial Production and Index of Eight Core Industries, and monthly economic review of ministries also plays a vital role in providing policy inputs to assess the impact of Covid-19.”
