The contribution of textile industry in GDP in terms of percentage share of industrial output was around 7% during the last three years, creating estimatedly 45 million direct employment. The Union Minister of State for Textiles Darshana Jardosh informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply. She also informed about the achievements of SAMARTH scheme, under which more than 13,235 artisans have been trained in the last three years. The minister also detailed the achievements of MUDRA loans scheme, under which 117,678 number of loans have been sanctioned to handloom sector across the country during last five years. Investment in this sector has also been encouraging. From 2017-2022, an investment of US$1522.23 million came through FDI route in the textile sector.
